Fenlon plays down link with SPL

by Niamh O'Mahony , 15 June 2009

Bohemians boss Pat Fenlon has played down speculation linking him with a move to the SPL.

With Motherwell and Falkirk among those searching for new managers this summer, the man who has led both Shelbourne and Bohemians to League and Cup glory is thought to be a consideration.

However, the Dubliner says he has no intention of leaving Dalymount Park at the moment, though he admits there are plenty of problems in the League of Ireland which need addressing.

“I haven’t had any contact from anyone and I’m sure the club haven’t either. I’m sure they would have spoken to me if they did,” Fenlon insisted.

“Of course I have ambitions to maybe manage at a higher level, but I’m still very young as a manager so I’m not going to be naive or foolish enough to jump into something.

"People talk about Scotland but there’s not many teams you’d leave Bohemians to go manage in Scotland for, so that’s another factor.

“Since we’ve come into this job 18 months ago we’ve changed the club around from a football point of view, and we want to try to build on that.”

However, Fenlon also freely conceded that all is not rosy in the garden.

“I listen to people criticising players and manager but there’s a lot of good work being done by managers and coaches. Still, it’s very frustrating," he went on.

“We’re top of the league and in the semi-finals of the League Cup and there’s no one at the match – it makes you pull your hair out."
