Ross O'Carroll to miss Derry visit

by GAA Staff , 09 February 2010

Ross O'Carroll will not be available to Dublin senior football manager Pat Gilroy when the Dubs take on Derry in their second National Football League Division One game of the season against Derry on Saturday.

The Kilmacud Crokes defender - who has switched to play inter-county football rather than hurling - had been due to make his competitive football debut for the Dubs in last Sunday's NFL opener against Kerry in Killarney.

However, he missed that game - in which Dublin defeated the league and All-Ireland holders - as he had to withdraw from the squad after picking up a thigh injury on Sigerson Cup duty with UCD a few days before earlier.

His brother Rory instead filled in at full back with Paul Conlon drafted in at corner back and that selection may be maintained when the Oak Leafers turn up at Parnell Park on Saturday evening.

Ross will still not be fit for that game and indeed is facing a race against time to be ready for the March 7 date with Mayo.

Elsewhere for Dublin, Ger Brennan and Conal Keaney are expected to return to training this week after minor hamstring strains, while Pat Burke and Darren Magee have also come back into contention for selection after they were missing through injury in the early part of 2010.
