Tipperary football manager John Evans, also serving as Director of Football with the county, is facing a battle with the GAA after the Association changed its rules on allowing members fulfil dual roles.

Evans was recently given the full-time, salaried post as part of the Premier county's ambitious 10-year plan, and was expecting to carry out his duties alongside those of senior team manager, but now the GAA has stated that full-time employees are not eligible to coach, train, manage, select or have "any other related involvement" with any team, unless it is with their home club.

This represents a change of stance by the GAA, who previously allowed individuals seek a special derogation through their county or province if they wanted to take up a coaching role in tandem with any full-time, paid employment by the GAA. This loophole has now been closed, with Croke Park obviously not keen on allowing anyone serving in roles that are bound by rule to remain unpaid (i.e. team managers) to be simultaneously receiving cheques from within the GAA for positions that are salaried.

Now it's believed that Michael Dempsey, employed by Carlow county board for the last year and a half, but also serving as a Kilkenny hurling selector, could also fall foul of the new arrangements.
