Annie injury not as bad as feared
Willie Mullins is hopeful Annie Power will be fit for the Cheltenham Festival after scans revealed she does not have a stress fracture.
The brilliant mare was declared to run in Sunday’s Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse but was withdrawn shortly after Friday’s confirmation stage after being found to be lame.
Speaking over the weekend, Mullins suggested the six-year-old had suffered a stress fracture, which would have been her on the easy list for at least eight weeks and would have left the trainer with little time to get her ready for Cheltenham.
Scans have confirmed the injury is not as bad as feared and Mullins expects to have her back training shortly after Christmas.
“Annie will walk until Christmas and be checked again and then hopefully be back to full training,” Mullins confirmed. “There is no fracture. Just a stress reaction.
“We hope to make it (to Cheltenham). If we can we will run before.”
