Injury concerns for City
Manchester City will be forced to play some of their big-name players in Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund due to a lengthy injury list.
City have no chance of progressing to the knockout stages of the Champions League but the right result over the German champions could see them qualify for the Europa League.
With a visit to Old Trafford looming at the weekend, manager Roberto Mancini would have liked to rest some key players midweek but, with the likes of Aleksandar Kolarov, Jack Rodwell, James Milner and Gael Clichy all sidelined, he does not have that luxury.
“With everybody we have got on the treatment table, we are not going to have much choice,” first-team coach David Platt explained.
“But the fortunate thing is that Dortmund is a Tuesday night game and we have an extra day to recover because the derby isn’t until Sunday.
“Four days is enough to recover. You don’t grumble about that, but we haven’t got an advantage over United. At the end of the day, they have already qualified and they can pick any team they want against Cluj.”
City will also be without the Toure brothers, Kolo and Yaya, for the Group D outing, while Micah Richards is also absent through injury.
