Rosberg staying with Mercedes

Nico Rosberg is adamant he will be at Mercedes in 2013 and he wants Michael Schumacher to commit to another year with the team.

On-going speculation has linked Lewis Hamilton with a move to Mercedes with some reports claiming the 2008 world champion will reject a new contract with McLaren in favour of a move to the Silver Arrow outfit.

Should Hamilton sign for Mercedes, the Ross Brawn-headed team would be looking to replace either Rosberg or Schumacher, but the former insists it will not be him.

“I will definitely be in the Silver Arrow next year. I look forward to the next season, and even more race wins,” Rosberg told German news agency DAPD.

Schumacher’s contract expires at the end of the season and speculation is rife that he could be closing to announcing his retirement for a second time.

The seven-time world champion has not won a race since returning to the sport over two years ago but Rosberg would love to have Schumacher as his team-mate for another year.

“I think it would be right if Michael stays,” he added.

“We get along well, the competition is good. Michael is still at a very, very high level on the road. It is a challenge to race against him. We push the team forward well.”
