Villas-Boas heaps praise on Defoe

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is delighted with Jermaine Defoe’s form and says the striker has been “immense for the team”.

Spurs have won three of their last four matches in all competitions and Defoe has excelled in the lone striker role, with four goals to date this season.

Villas-Boas is delighted with the striker’s form and believes Defoe’s performances have lifted the whole team.

“He has been immense for the team,” Villas-Boas said.

“He’s getting continuous opportunities that maybe he didn’t have in the past so I think he is enjoying it a bit more. He is looking extremely happy.”

The former Chelsea manager continued: “We have to be very grateful for what he has been doing for the team.

“For a striker goals are decisive and he has four in the Premier League.

“He’s not far off being top scorer and he has been creating so much. I can’t put anything of his in to question.

Spurs travel to Manchester United on Saturday for a 17.30 kick off seeking a third straight Premier League win, with Defoe set to start having scored three goals in the last two league fixtures.
