Bohemians and Galway United played out an enthralling 2-2 at Terryland Park on Tuesday with the Gypsies twice coming from behind to clinch a point.
Galway tested the visitors in the opening exchanges with Karl Sheppard's pace causing several problems, but it was Bohemians that went close in the 14th minute when Paul Keegan released Paddy Madden. His resulting effort crept wide and within minutes the home side had taken the lead.
Sheppard once again proved troublesome and referee Anthony Buttimer awarded him a penalty after Brian Shelley was adjudged to have shoved the Galway player inside the area.
Shelley was given his marching orders as Stephen O'Donnell stepped up to score the penalty and give his side the lead.
Bohemians pressed for an equaliser with Gareth McGlynn testing Galway goalkeeper Barry Ryan, but they could not find the breakthrough and at the interval the home side were 1-0 up.
Kilian Brennan went close for Bohs after the break but Ryan was alert to the threat before Madden sent his effort over in the 65th minute.
The Gypsies' efforts were rewarded in the 70th minute when Madden grabbed an equaliser but just four minutes later the home side were back in front when substitute Tom King's effort crawled over the line.
Bohemians picked themselves up, however, and once again Madden was the saviour as he took advantage of a moment of hesitancy from Ryan to find the back of the net.
