Shittu and Riga miss cut

Bolton boss Owen Coyle has named a 24-man Premier League squad, with Danny Shittu and Mustapha Riga missing out.

Shittu, a £2million signing from Watford in 2008, has made just 12 appearances for the Wanderers since his move to the Reebok and has missed out on Coyle's Premier League squad.

The Bolton boss could have named 25 players, but the Scottish tactician chose to omit Shittu and winger Riga.

Shittu has now received a pay off from Bolton and is a free-agent, meaning he can find another club outside of the transfer window.

The situation with former Levante forward Riga is less clear because reports claim he failed to negotiate a similar pay-off and is still contracted to Bolton, but he will be unable to play in the league until January after missing out on making the squad.

Goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi has been included, despite heading to Wigan on a season-long loan deal earlier in the summer, while Jlloyd Samuel, who has dropped way down the pecking order under Coyle, is also involved.

However, despite the fact Coyle has named just 24 players the Bolton boss actually has 30 players at his disposal as Premier League managers can use as many players under the age of 21 from within their ranks as they wish.

New-boys Marcos Alonso, Rodrigo Moreno and Tom Eaves have not been named in the 24, while Danny Ward, Tope Obadeyi and Robert Lainton have also been left off the list, but as all six players are under 21 they can still play before January, when managers can make revisions to their 25 man list.

Bolton squad: Robbie Blake, Adam Bogdan, Gary Cahill, Tamir Cohen, Kevin Davies, Mark Davies, Sean Davis, Johan Elmander, Ricardo Gardner, Stuart Holden, Jussi Jaaskelainen, Ivan Klasnic, Zat Knight, Chung-Yong Lee, Fabrice Muamba, Andy O'Brien, Joey O'Brien, Martin Petrov, Sam Ricketts, Paul Robinson, Jlloyd Samuel, Gretar Steinsson, Matt Taylor, Ali Al-Habsi (on loan to Wigan).
