Southwell to inspect for Wednesday

by JP Lonergan , 16 January 2012

Southwell will inspect ahead of Wednesday's National Hunt meeting.

The course will undergo a check at 6am on the morning of the planned card, after the course was frozen due to the cold weather in the area.

Clerk of the course Roderick Duncan said on Monday: "I'm very optimistic and if conditions improve, I could bring the inspection forward to Tuesday.

"We're frozen at the moment, so the track is unraceable, but hopefully things will improve.

"The forecast for tonight suggests we are not going to get quite as hard a frost as we have over the last couple of days, maybe getting down to -1C."

Folkestone, meanwhile, will also inspect at 7.15 am on Tuesday morning.
Temperatures dropped below what was forecast overnight, and it has been decided that it is best to have a check before committing to Tuesday's meeting.

The ground, for now, is described as soft on the hurdles track and good, good to soft in places on the chase course.
