Wi leads the way at Pebble Beach

Charlie Wi took advantage of the best of the weather to open a three-shot lead going into the third day of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Interminant showers made conditions tricky for the field but it did not hurt Wi as he carded a three-under-par 69 to move to to 12-under for the tournament.

Playing the Pebble Beach Golf Links Wi eagled the par-four 13th before closing with birdie-bogey-birdie-par-birdie-bogey to sign for a 69.

"I have some experience playing with the lead," Wi said. "I took the approach today by telling myself that this is just a new day and whatever happened yesterday that I was going to put it behind me and just start fresh."

Dustin Johnson sits three shots back after carding a 72 at Spyglass Hill in the worst of the weather and the former winner was far from happy with his effort.

"It played really, really hard coming in," he said. "It seemed like every hole we played was into the wind, too. It got cold, it was wet and the ball was going nowhere.

"But still my score was a lot worse than how I played. I really gave away some shots. I three-putted twice from really close and didn't get up and down a couple of times from right next to the flag."

Vijay Singh is another shot back on eight under, the same score as Padraig Harrington, who carded a 66, Brian Gay, Brendon Todd and Danny Lee.

Tiger Woods shot a two-under 68 but he finds himself six shots off the pace and the former world number one admits that he found it tough in the weather.

"Drove it good again today, unfortunately just didn't make enough birdies," he told the PGA Tour website.

"The golf course got a little interesting coming in. I was hitting the ball in the wrong spots. And the greens started to get a little bumpy with the softer conditions."
