Felipe Massa is feeling confident that Ferrari are capable of taking a big step forward in the Spanish Grand Prix later this month.
It has been a case of damage limitation for Ferrari in the four races to date but the Maranello outfit are ready to introduce a number of updates to the F2012 during the three-day test at Mugello.
Fernando Alonso has predicted the team will benefit greatly from the developments and that is a view which has been supported by Massa who has struggled for any sort of form this year.
While victory could be too much to ask for Massa believes there is every chance the team could get both cars into the top ten and he feels that would be a significant step for Ferrari's title hopes.
"This (both Ferrari's starting in the top ten at Barcelona0 is inside my expectation, but we haven't tried all the new parts so we need to see in Barcelona how it will be and how much they improve the car," the Brazilian said.
"Then we can be more realistic, but it is inside my expectations, definitely.
"To close the gap you need to improve much more than the others and they are working and improving. In three weeks, you see cars improving by two or three tenths, so we need to make a huge step forward.
"Definitely it (winning races) is a bit too optimistic but when we have new parts and everything on the car then we can talk better.
"Without trying the new parts it is difficult to say, but to close the gap to the guys in front and win races is a little bit too optimistic - but we hope."
