Exclusive: Cavenaghi fancies Premier League

by Laurent Picard , 27 November 2008

Argentina international Fernando Cavenaghi, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, has told setanta.com during an exclusive interview that he would be interested in a switch to White Hart Lane.

Cavenaghi is a huge star at impressive French side Bordeaux and the fox-in-the-box appeared during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The prolific striker is reportedly a 2009 target for Spurs and, when asked about the North Londoners’ alleged interest, “Cavenagoal”, as he is dubbed, revealed for the very first time his attraction to The Premier League.

The 25-year-old Argentinian, who already hit the back of the net eight times in Ligue 1 this term, wishes to emulate fellow countrymen Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.

Cavenaghi told setanta.com at Stade Chaban-Delmas: “I do not know if Tottenham are really interested in signing me, but, if it is right, I will study this offer because they are a top English team.

“I must say I like the English league, I like it a lot, man.

“You never know if you are going to settle into a new league, for example moving to France was kind of a gamble to me because I thought it would be much more difficult for me.

“But, until that day, everything is fine for me, and, touch wood, it continues like that.

“I would not say I am frustrated at staying on the bench, because this only happens in the Champions League, and I come on as a substitute, but I play every single league game.”

He added: “I know many Premier League players, even if there are not many Argentinians up there, maybe 10.

“I know Tevez and Mascherano well, and they always tell me how happy they are in The Premier League, so why not following in their footsteps?”
