Dalglish feels for Rovers

by Tom Kell , 16 December 2008

Kenny Dalglish told Setanta Sports News that Blackburn’s hand was forced when opting to terminate Paul Ince’s contract.

Despite numerous votes of confidence from his players and superiors, Ince departed Ewood Park on Tuesday after six losses on the bounce.

Dalglish was the man who led Rovers to the Premier League title in 1995 and, despite claiming that Ince has the potential to become a ‘fantastic manager’, is all too aware that the club would not have taken such drastic measures had it not been deemed entirely necessary.

“It’s a big disappointment for Paul but it’s also a big disappointment for the club that they have to go round and sack the manager because Blackburn are a good club, they don’t do things on a whim," he told Setanta Sports News

“They think about things pretty diligently and then go from there.

“It was a difficult situation for them. If they had given him money to spend in January and it doesn’t work out, there’ll be none left for the new guy coming in.

“At this moment there might be some available and the guy coming in will have a couple of weeks to look at the players.

“They’re five points from safety but they’ve given themselves plenty of time to turn it around. The new guy has got half a season to catch up five points.”
