Paul Stalteri will join Borussia Monchengladbach on January 1 after agreeing a deal with the Bundesliga side.
Canada international Stalteri had his contract with Tottenham terminated by mutual consent over the weekend after manager Harry Redknapp deemed him surplus to requirements.
The 31-year-old, who joined Spurs from Werder Bremen after seven seasons with the German club, was a regular starter under Martin Jol following his arrival in May 2005.
However, Pascal Chimbonda’s transfer from Wigan to White Hart Lane the following summer reduced Stalteri’s participation and he was loaned to Fulham in January of this year, returning to north London in the summer.
And after agreeing with the board at Spurs to end his stay there, Stalteri has now signed terms with bottom-placed Borussia, whom he will join on a two-and-a-half year deal at the turn of the New Year.
“We have brought in Paul Stalteri for the positions on either side of defence,” said Borussia sporting director Max Eberl. “He may play on the right but can also play on the left side.”
