Spurs and Gunners to miss out on Finnan

by Laurent Picard , 23 December 2008

Reported Tottenham and Arsenal target Steve Finnan will not be moving in January, according to Espanyol coach Mane.

Former Liverpool right back Finnan secured a surprising move to the Spanish league last summer, but his arrival in Catalonia was wasted by injuries.

The 32-year-old has only appeared four times with the Pericos and has been linked with a return to The Premier League.

But Espanyol chief Mane sees the experienced defender as an important player for his squad and has ruled out sending him on loan during the transfer window.

Mane told Spanish media sources: “No doubt Finnan will be an important player for our defence.”

And Barcelona’s second club’s sporting director Paco Herrera added that: “Finnan is staying at Espanyol because we consider him an important player that will help us in the second half to the season.”
