Portsmouth have confirmed Giovani Dos Santos has undergone a medical, but they could face competion for the Tottenham midfielder.
The Mexican has cut little ice at White Hart Lane since his move from Barcelona in the summer.
Spurs chief Harry Redknapp is determined to stamp his own mark on the Tottenham squad and it seems that Giovani is surplus to requirements.
Pompey are eager to wrap up a deal for the 19-year-old, but there are concerns over his fitness and a second medical will be carried out on Monday.
“We are looking at Dos Santos but probably there will be just one more arriving today,” said Pompey executive chairman Peter Storrie who wrapped up a deal for Angelos Basinas earlier on Monday.
”He's here but there have to be more medical and fitness tests to assess his levels before anything is taken further.
“The lad has not played too much and it's no good him being ready in 3-4 weeks. We want him ready for action now.
“He had the first part of his medical yesterday, but you cannot do scans on a Sunday night so he was having the remainder today.
“You have to be thorough nowadays, we do not want to bring in anyone who is not going to be fit.”
Tottenham have accepted two bids for Giovani and it remains to be seen if Pompey win the race for his signature.
