Chelsea have confirmed Guus Hiddink will take charge of first-team affairs until the end of the season.
The Blues parted ways with Luiz Felipe Scolari on Monday and it quickly emerged that Hiddink was their number one target.
Hiddink opened the door to a potential move to Stamford Bridge by admitting he would be prepared to juggle the Chelsea job and his role with the Russian national side.
He said he would head to Chelsea as a favour to Blues owner Roman Abramovich and a deal was concluded on Wednesday.
“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to confirm Guus Hiddink will become temporary coach until the end of the season,” read a statement on Chelsea’s official website.
“He is due to meet the players later this week.
“The club would like to take this opportunity to thank the Russian Football Union for their understanding and cooperation.”
Hiddink's first taste of English football will be an FA Cup clash with Watford, although it has not been confirmed if he will take the reins on Saturday, and the only place to catch the game is Setanta Sports.
