Ronaldo 'sad' for 'friend' Scolari

by Laurent Picard , 12 February 2009

Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his sadness following Luiz Felipe Scolari’s sacking by Chelsea.

Manchester United star Ronaldo has called the Brazilian a ‘friend’ and backed him to bounce back from his disappointing experience at Stamford Bridge.

Even if United and The Blues are Premier League title rivals, the Ballon d’Or winner is not happy with what happened to their boss.

Portugal international Ronaldo, who scored the only goal of the international friendly with Finland on Wednesday night from the penalty spot, has said that “Big Phil” remains a good manager despite his early departure from Chelsea.

“This news made me feel very sad because he’s a great friend," said Ronaldo.

“Even if he was an adversary, he was a friend above all else.

“He remains a top manager and a great man.”
