Queiroz slams Scolari sacking

by Laurent Picard , 16 February 2009

Luiz Felipe Scolari’s departure from Chelsea is ‘bad news for football’ according to Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz.

Former Manchester United assistant coach Queiroz has criticised Chelsea for partying ways with the highly rated Scolari, only seven months after the Brazilian took over.

The Portugal boss has questioned English clubs for sacking coaches too early, with Tony Adams, Paul Ince, Juande Ramos and Alan Curbishley shown the door this season.

Queiroz told TVI: “It was a surprise to me, but too many managers have been sacked in England recently.

“It’s a shame that a coach has to depart only seven months after starting his mission.

“What occurred is not normal and it’s bad news for football.

“I’m aware of the fact that he experienced stressful moments while he was in charge (of Chelsea).”

Portugal boss Queiroz has hinted that he does not fear being replaced by his predecessor Scolari.

He said: “The fact that Scolari’s in the market is not a problem for me.

“This doesn’t put my under any pressure because the pressure I’m feeling only comes from the results Portugal are achieving.”
