Histon and Cambridge United both won on Tuesday night and remain level on points in the Blue Square Premier.
Histon 2 Barrow 0
Histon duo Antonio Murray and Daniel Wright both netted late goals as The Stutes shrugged off a scare to keep the pressure on leaders Burton against Barrow.
Barrow had keeper Alan Martin to thank as they went into the half all square denying Jamie Barker, Daniel Wright and Matt Langston in a busy first half.
The visitors fought back in the second half and had Nathaniel Kerr buried a free-kick from the edge of the box could have stole all three points.
But it wasn’t to be and when Murray powered home Lanre Oyebanjo’s corner in the 84th minute that was it with Wright heading home in similar fashion minutes later.
Grays 0 Cambridge 1
Peterborough loanee Scott Rendell ensured boss Gary Brabin’s promise to keep runaway leaders Burton on their toes was delivered against ten man Grays.
Rendell powered home the only goal of the game in the 42nd minute after The Blues withstood heavy periods of pressure from The U’s.
However it was far from plain sailing for Cambridge and could have easily fell behind had keeper Danny Potter not denited Ishmael Welsh and Andy Pugh after the break.
But any hopes Grays had of an equaliser were thwarted when George Beavan was sent off for violent conduct in the 59th minute.
Crawley 5 Lewes 1
On-loan Rochdale striker Jon Shaw’s first-half double inspired play-off chasing Crawley to an emphatic five-goal romp of rock-bottom Lewes.
The Rooks fate was sealed as early as the fourth minute thanks to Shaw’s opener and defender Sam Rents’ penalty after the former was hauled down Lewes keeper Rikki Banks.
Former Boston midfielder Simon Weatherstone made it three in the 38th minute before aShaw completed a first-half rout with his second on the stroke of half-time.
Manager’s son Joe Keehan gave Lewes a glimmer of hope six minutes after the restart only for defender Adam Quinn to hammer home the advantage for Steve Evans’ men late on.
Torquay 3 Forest Green 3
Striker Iyesden Christie was Torquay’s savior as they came from behind to claim an unlikely point in a six-goal thriller against Forest Green at Plainmoor.
The Gulls raced ahead in the 18th minute courtesy of Matthew Green but had no answer as Accrington loanee Andrew Mangan netted a quick-fire first half hat-trick.
Mangan netted his in the 28th minute from the spot after Lee Mansell was adjudged to have handled in the area before netting a further two in the next six minutes.
Rovers sat back after the break and saw all three points slip through their fingers with ten minutes to go when Christe lashed home Mustapha Carayol’s through ball.
Rushden & Diamonds 2 York 0
Second-half strikes from Andrew Burgess and Robert Wolleaston ensured it was proceeding as normal for Rushden against York at Nene Park.
Diamonds cruised to a comfortable 9-0 win over Weymouth’s youth team on Saturday but faced much tougher opposition in York – who nearly took the lead through striker Richard Brodie early on.
York battled valiantly in the first half but were no match for Rushden after the restart as Burgess finally broke the deadlock in the 58th minute after combining with Lee Tomlin.
The Minstermen struggled to get back into the game and Wolleaston put the result beyond doubt in the 72nd to gift caretaker boss Justin Edinburgh back-to-back wins.
Stevenage 1 Woking 0
Woking’s miserable run of defeats was extended to four thanks to Lee Boylan’s second half strike for promotion-chasing Stevenage.
The Cards hadn’t found the net in their last three games and never looking like troubling the scorers at Broadhall way with Mitchell Cole keeping them on their toes early on.
And despite seeing midfielder Darren Murphy and former Spurs defender Ronnie Henry both limp off in the second half – Boylan ensured proceeding ended on a high note converting Lawrie Wilson’s cross in the 59th minute.
Northwich 0 Kettering 0
Northwich keeper Ryan Clarke fought off a second half Kettering onslaught to earn The Vics a shock point against The Poppies.
The Salisbury loanee was on hand to deny Gareth Seddon’s 20-yard pile driver on the stroke of half-time before repeating the trick to thwart striker Craig Westcarr late on.
Northwich nearly grabbed a shock winner only for Matt Bailey to head wide of Kettering before frantic defending twice saw Westcarr denied.
