Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue hailed The Gunners fans after his side’s 1-0 win over Roma in Tuesday evening’s Champions League last 16 first leg tie.
Speaking to Setanta Sports, The Ivory Coast midfielder thanked The Emirates Stadium faithful for giving him a standing ovation, despite a particularly poor miss at 1-0 - that had it been put away would have made his side’s trip to Rome in two weeks a more comfortable one.
Robin van Persie’s first half penalty was enough for the win, while Nicklas Bendtner - like Eboue - had a poor miss, but the midfielder insists his side remain happy with the result and were happy to win for their fans three days after the poor 0-0 Premier League draw with Sunderland.
“We did out best and played very well because after not scoring in a few games, we needed confidence and today we wanted to win for Arsenal and for the fans,” Eboue told Setanta Sports.
“The fans gave us a lot and they were great tonight.
“We could have had more goals. I’m very happy that we won, but on a personal level I am disappointed because I had one good chance that I missed.
"But that is football, now I just have to think about the next game."
