Leaders Brentford are stunned by Chesterfield and Luton win the bottom of the table clash.
Brentford 0 Chesterfield 1
Martin Gritton’s second-half goal ended Brentford’s eight match unbeaten run to give the chasing pack hope of catching the leaders.
The Bees were the better side before the break with Tommy Lee saving from Bees strikers Charlie MacDonald and Jordan Rhodes.
Drew Talbot tested Ben Hamer at the other end but Gritton broke the deadlock on 52 minutes when he stole in to finish from 12 yards.
Lee produced a fine stop to turn away Marcus Bean’s fierce shot and Talbot fluffed a great chance in the closing stages but it wasn’t to prove costly.
Luton 2 Grimsby 1
Asa Hall’s 88th minute goal ensured a miserable return to Luton for Grimsby boss Mike Newell in the basement battle at Kenilworth Road.
Former Luton winger Adrian Forber was denied by Dean Brill in the opening half hour before the game came to life just before the break.
In the 41st minute Ryan Bennett headed in Nick Hegarty’s corner but The Hatters were level before the interval when Mark Bower got on the end of Tom Craddock’s cross to beat Wayne Henderson.
Chances were few and far between in a nervy second period but Luton took all of the points at the death when Hall bundled in Michael Spillane’s cross.
Notts County 0 Gillingham 1
Simeon Jackson’s 17th goal of the season grabbed Gillingham a vital three points and moved them into second in the process.
Jonathan Forte forced Gills keeper Simon Royce into a fine save in the opening exchanges with Delroy Facey also going close for County.
But the visitors dug in and snatched the lead in the 58th minute – Jackson finishing off from close range following Andy Barcham’s run and cross.
Barcham almost added a second in the closing stages but Jackson’s goal was enough to take all the points back to Kent.
Bournemouth 4 Bradford 1
Doubles from strikers Steve Fletcher and Jeff Goulding fired Bournemouth to a convincing win over play-off chasing Bradford.
Fletcher took just three minutes to break the deadlock when he stroked home Goulding’s pass from the edge of the box.
City defender Matt Clarke levelled when he headed in Nicky Law’s cross midway through the half but Fletcher restored the lead soon after with another confident finish.
Goulding added a third six minutes before the break when he slammed in from ten yards and he sealed the win five minutes into the second period when he got on the end of Fletcher’s knockdown to beat Rhys Evans.
Rotherham 1 Aldershot 2
John Grant’s first-half double stunned Rotherham and earned Aldershot only their fourth away win of the season.
The Shots striker opened his account in the 15th minute with a classy finish from 15 yards after being set-up by Lewis Chalmers.
And he had his sixth of the season seven minutes before the break, rising highest to head in Jake Robinson’s corner.
The shell-shocked Millers improved after the break and set-up a tense final 12 minutes when substitute Jamie Clarke headed in Michael Cummins cross but Gary Waddock’s men held on.
Accrington Stanley 2 Port Vale 0
Andrew Procter and James Ryan eased Accrington’s relegation as they comfortably saw off struggling Port Vale.
Midfielder Procter gave the sparse home crowd something to cheer in the fourth minute when he was left unmarked to head in John Miles cross.
Port Vale’s on-loan Manchester City starlet Paul Marshall was denied an equaliser by Kenny Arthur before Ryan crashed in another Miles cross for a second in the 27th minute.
Miles almost added a third after the break with Arthur also saving from Adnan Ahmed but Stanley were good value for the win.
Lincoln City 0 Darlington 1
On-loan Carlisle striker Danny Carlton brightened the gloom at crisis-club Darlington with an early opener at Sincil Bank.
The lively Carlton headed in Rob Purdie’s cross in the seventh minute for his second goal in successive games and that proved to be the winner.
Quakers keeper Andy Oakes then pulled off fine saves to keep out Ben Wright, Tim Ryan and Josh Gray as the Imps piled forward but the visitors clung on for a morale-boosting win.
