Injured Deco would play for Portugal

by Chris Stanton , 19 March 2009

Deco has risked the wrath of Chelsea by declaring that he would play for Portugal even if he is not 100 percent fit.

It was originally reported that the former Barcelona star would be sidelined for the rest of the season after he suffered the recurrence of a hamstring injury in Sunday's win over Manchester City.

Conflicting reports have since emerged on the possible availability of a player whose performances have been largely disappointing for Chelsea.

Now, the player's advisor, Kaelzinho Fellegi, revealed that Deco would consult with Chelsea before deciding whether to play for Portugal but that he would like to make himself available to Carlos Queiroz.

“He knows that the game is very important to the aspirations of the Portuguese team,” Fellegi told Maisfutebol.

“Let’s see what the doctors at Chelsea say, but if Carlos Queiroz wants him to play then he will, even if he is not 100 percent.”
