World Cup: Group One round-up

by Laurent Picard , 28 March 2009

Denmark remain top and Hungary second after bagging away victories, while Portugal once again dropped points at home.

Portugal and Sweden played out a goalless draw at Porto’s Dragoes and Carlos Queiroz’s future in charge of the Selecao is more unsure than ever.

Chelsea ace Deco made his return to action 30 minutes from time, replacing Tiago, while his club team-mate Jose Bosingwa was substituted at half time.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed a free header from very close range, while La Selecao pushed for the winner and put their guests on the back foot, but Henrik Larsson’s yellows manage to keep a clean sheet.

A goal proved enough for Hungary to rule at The Qemal Stafa stadium in Albania, with striker Sandor Torghelle bagging the only effort of the game seven minutes before half time.

Denmark remain top of the group thanks to a well-deserved 3-0 win over Malta on Saturday evening.

Soren Larsen bagged a brace at The Ta’Qali National Stadium, with the attacker scoring after 12 and 23 minutes. Morten Nordstrand killed the game off two minutes before the final whistle and just six minutes after coming on.
