Kettering 1 Cambridge 2
Cambridge United’s slim chances of automatic promotion remain intact as they cruised to a comfortable victory over Kettering.
Kettering’s afternoon got off to the worst possible start as Guy Branston handled in the box after just 13 minutes and striker Chris Holroyd made no mistake from the spot.
The Poppies fought back after the break and Breet Solkhon could have equalised with a superb volley but keeper Danny Potter was equal to it.
But Cambridge wrapped up the victory in the 80th minute when Robbie Willmott rifled the ball home from the edge of the box before Gareth Seddon bagged a late consolation for Kettering.
Barrow 0 York 0
Barrow keeper Tim Deasy heaped more agony on struggling York as he produced a string of saves to thwart The Minstermen.
York continue to struggle in the Blue Square Premier despite reaching the FA Trophy final and needed a victory to more them out of the drop zone.
But Deasy was on hand to twice deny striker Richard Brodie in the dying minutes at Holker Street and hand Barrow a crucial point in their bid for safety.
On-loan Rochdale striker Lee McEvilly missed Barrow’s best chance of the match in the first half when he fired wide of the mark.
Woking 0 Oxford 2
Oxford’s play-off dream is still alive as they disposed of relegation-threatened Woking in front of a bumper crowd at The Kingfield Stadium.
The kick-off had to be delayed by almost an hour as over 2,000 travelling Oxford fans crammed into the ground and swelled the crowd to 3,791.
And The U’s fans were not disappointed as Adam Murray netted the opener after just four minutes when he curled a delightful free kick past Danny Knowles.
Oxford wrapped up the points in the 18th minute when Simon Clist latched onto Craig Farrell’s centre.
Crawley 0 Stevenage 2
Stevenage moved back into the play-off places with a narrow victory over Crawley at The Broadfield Stadium.
Michael Bostwick broke the deadlock for Graham Westley’s men in the 39th minute when he fired past keeper Simon Rayner from the edge of the box.
Crawley – whose own promotion dreams are now all but over – did produce something of a fightback with Michael Malcolm forcing a smart save from Chris Day.
But Calum Willock eased the nerves five minutes from time when he slammed the ball home from close range.
Weymouth 1 Forest Green 1
Andy Mangan’s 25th goal of the season rescued a point for Forest Green and leave struggling Weymouth on the verge of the relegation zone.
Weymouth – who appointed former Wales boss Bobby Gould as their new manager earlier in the day after Alan Lewer was sacked - were given a relegation survival lifeline in the first half.
Folawiyo Onibuje’s pin-point cross had the Forest Green defence in disarray and on-loan Barnet striker Cliff Akurang nodded home from close range.
But Rovers striker Mangan wasted no time in equalising for Jim Harvey’s man after the break as he tapped home inside the box from Jonathan Smith’s centre.
Northwich 2 Mansfield 0
Northwich’s great escape is still on when Lee Elam grabbed his first goal for the club on their way to their third straight win.
Joel Byrom swung in a corner from the right and Grand rose highest to thump his header past Jason White on 31 minutes.
They went two up as Elam, who joined The Vics from rivals Altrincham in January, bundled in from close range.
Mansfield nearly pulled one back when home keeper Ryan Clarke twice produced brilliant saves in the closing stages as Northwich kept their slim survival hopes alive.
Salisbury 2 Torquay 2
Nicky Wroe struck an injury-time equaliser for ten-man Torquay against Salisbury but they were left to regret only converting one out of three penalties.
The Gulls were awarded two spotkicks in the opening 20 minutes with Tim Sills failing to convert the first before Wayne Carlisle showed him how to do it.
Charlie Griffin got the Lilywhites back on level terms on the stroke of halftime and on 56 minutes James Bittner kept out Carlisle’s second penalty.
Charles Ademeno looked to have grabbed the winner with ten minutes left for Salisbury especially when Michael Brough was sent off against his former club only for Wroe to have the last word in stoppage time.
Histon 0 Rushden & Diamonds 0
Histon’s play-off bid was dented as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Rusden & Diamonds.
Midfielder Antonio Murray stung Dale Roberts’ palms with a 30-yard piledriver for the home side while Jack Midson shot just wide.
Rushden’s best effort came in injury time when Nick McNamara’s shot was kept out by Danny Naisbitt as The Stutes failed to win for the fourth straight game.
Ebbsfleet 2 Lewes 1
Ebbsfleet eased their relegation worries as they came from behind to defeat in-form Lewes.
The Rooks, who have won two on the bounce after their relegation was confirmed, took the lead when Josh Jirbandey slammed in Michael Standing’s corner on 40 minutes.
But deep into first-half stoppage time, the Kent side drew level when Rashid Yussuff found the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
The second-half was all Ebbsfleet and they went ahead when Guiseppe Sole was hauled down in the area and he picked himself up to slam home the penalty.
Wrexham 0 Altrincham 1
Wrexham’s play-off bid was officially ended when Greg Young struck the only goal of the game for Altrincham at The Racecourse Ground.
In a poor match, The Robins took a lead they would never relinquish when Matt Doughy’s bouncing freekick was headed over keeper Chris Maxwell by Young.
A bad day for the home side was made worse when Mansour Assoumani, just three games into his Wrexham career, was shown a straight red with eight minutes to go.
Dean Saunders’ side have now failed to hit the net in their last three games with midfielder Adam Crofts having their best effort on goal with a shot that went narrowly wide.
Eastbourne 2 Grays 1
Grays’ three-game unbeaten run came to an end at Eastbourne Borough as they had Andy Pugh sent off in a rollercoaster match on the South Coast.
The visitors had to replace keeper Steven Arnold with Rob Beckwith on eight minutes and his first job was to pick the ball out of the net when Jay Lovett finished off Neil Jenkins’ cross.
Just before the break former Crystal Palace star Tommy Black turned in the equaliser from Jamie Taylor’s cross.
Boro restored their lead when Fabian Wilnis conceded a penalty and Paul Armstrong made no mistake from the spot before Pugh was given his marching orders for a challenge on Matt Crabb.
