Luton 0 Chesterfield 0
Luton's 89-year stay in the Football League is at an end after they drew 0-0 with Chesterfield.
Docked 30 points ahead of the current campaign, Luton always had a mountain to climb after being punished for financial irregularities.
Town have actually amassed 54 points this season, would be sitting comfortably in 15th but for the docked points.
The reality is that a draw with Chesterfield leaves them 13 points adrift, a tally that cannot possibly be made up with four games remaining.
It was Chesterfield’s fifth draw in a row but it may have been better for The Spireites had former Nottingham Forest forward Jack Lester remembered to pack his shooting boots.
Lester was presented with a glorious first-half opportunity but failed to find the target with the goal gaping, while Sam Parkin might have nicked it for Luton at the death.
Bournemouth 0 Brentford 1
Former Crystal Palace defender Darren Powell went from hero to zero as league leaders Brentford clung on for an invaluable victory over Bournemouth.
Powell, in his second spell at Griffin Park, nodded The Bees ahead on 41 minutes after fine work from Sam Wood.
Burt Powell saw red just after the half-time interval for fighting with team-mate Karleigh Osborne, much to the dismay Brentford boss Andy Scott.
Cherries top-scorer Brett Pitman wasted a good chance to equalise but Brentford clung on for the points as they edge ever closer to League One.
Exeter 1 Wycombe 0
Matthew Gill’s solitary strike was enough to hand Exeter a crucial win over promotion rivals Wycombe.
Gill struck just after the hour mark when he fired home Ryan Harley’s low cross as The Chair Boys’ defence was caught napping.
In-form Wycombe forward John Akinde had an excellent chance to salvage a point, but his snap-shot went straight to Paul Jones in The Grecians goal.
And Akinde, who had three in his last three games prior to kick-off, again saw his late effort blocked by Jones as Exeter held on to go second in the table.
Gillingham 2 Dagenham & Redbridge 1
Dennis Oli grabbed a vital winning goal for Gillingham in their quest for promotion, netting just two minutes from time to grab all three points.
Former Brentford forward Mark McCammon put Gillingham ahead after just eight minutes, slotting home from close range after Daggers keeper Tony Roberts parried John Nutter’s shot.
But the visitors were level just before half time when Sam Saunders grabbed his second goal in three days - turning home Ben Strevens free-kick.
But on 88 minutes Oli headed home Nutter’s free-kick to give The Gills their first win in four matches.
Accrington Stanley 0 Chester 1
Ryan Lowe’s crucial first-half penalty handed Chester only their second win since Boxing Day as The Blues temporarily moved out of the relegation zone.
Lowe, who bagged the winner in Chester’s victory over Notts County last Saturday, showed nerves of steel to rifle home from the spot after he was fouled by Colin Murdock.
The former Shrewsbury winger also had the best chance of the opening exchanges, but he couldn’t keep his snap shot down on 20 minutes.
Chester slipped back into the drop-zone following Grimsby’s victory at Notts County, but they remain just a point behind their rivals.
Bradford 1 Lincoln City 1
Former Tottenham goalkeeper Robert Burch produced a virtuoso display in the Lincoln goal as Bradford’s play-off assault stuttered at Valley Parade.
Andrew Hutchinson put the visitors ahead just after half-time, converting a superb passing move by Lincoln.
But Bradford were level on 65 minutes when Lee Bullock made no mistake from eight yards after an excellent run from Bantams veteran Peter Thorne.
Thorne might have snatched the points for Bradford late on but he found Burch in excellent form as Bradford remain outside the play-off places.
Aldershot 1 Barnet 1
Barnet’s unbeaten run was extended to five as Bees stopper Jake Cole produced a string of fine saves to deny Aldershot the points.
Michael Leary put in-form Barnet ahead after just four minutes, arrowing his low drive past Shots’ stopper Nikki Bull and into the bottom-right corner.
But once Lewis Chalmers restored parity at The Rec it was one-way traffic with Cole denying Kirk Hudson, after a superb run.
And with just six minutes left on the clock, Hudson found himself clean through on goal but again Cole was equal to it as the spoils were shared.
Darlington 2 Bury 2
Pawel Abbott’s fifth goal of the season grabbed a point for Darlington as Bury slipped out of the automatic promotion places.
Glynn Hurst’s stunning strike put Bury ahead on seven minutes. He spun on the edge of the box and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
Jason Kennedy’s power header brought Darlington level on 37 minutes, as he rose highest to nod home Franz Burgmeier’s looping cross.
Efe Sodje put The Shakers back ahead on 50 minutes, nodding home Brian Barry-Murphy’s swirling corner but Abbott lashed home on 73 minutes to grab a point for The Quakers.
Notts County 0 Grimsby 2
Danny Boshell’s controversial late strike rounded off a vital victory for Grimsby, who had slipped into the relegation zone prior to kick-off.
The Mariners, who had been leapfrogged by Chester after their victory in the early kick-off, took the lead on 50 minutes when Robert Atkinson headed home Peter Sweeney’s corner.
Before today Grimsby had only won twice on their travels and the nerves clearly kicked in as the clock ticked down, with Richard Butcher seeing his effort fly just wide for The Magpies.
But Boshell ran through on 78 minutes and slotted home after a fine through-ball from Barry Conlon, despite the assistant referee appearing to flag for offside.
Port Vale 0 Rotherham 0
Port Vale’s goal-drought continued against Rotherham as they have now scored just once in their last five games.
Kyle Perry missed The Valiants’ best chance of the match late on when he failed to hit the target with a close-range header.
While in-form Rotherham forward Reuben Reid had a sight of goal early in the first half but blazed over Chris Martin’s goal.
Shrewsbury 1 Rochdale 1
Chris Dagnall rescued a point for Rochdale as Shrewsbury’s play-off hopes were dealt a major blow after failing to pick up all three points.
Grant Holt had put The Shrews ahead with a superb strike - his 27th goal in all competitions this season just after half time.
But Dagnall struck on 73 minutes to restore parity and ensure Rochdale remain in the play-off places, firing into the top corner from close range.
Macclesfield 0 Morecambe 1
David Artell struck five minutes from time to give Morecambe their second win of the Easter weekend.
Artell was on hand to flick Garry Hunter’s corner past Macclesfield keeper Jon Brain to hand his side the points.
Nathaniel Brown spurned an excellent chance to clinch a point for The Silkmen but he headed wide with just the goalkeeper to beat late on.
