Blue Square Premier Tuesday preview

by Adam Hipkiss , 20 April 2009

While Burton do their best to throw away the title, the rest of the divison continue regardless on Tuesday evening.

Barrow v Torquay

Strikers Lee Hunt and Nick Rogan are set to get the nod from the start as Barrow attempt to secure survival at home to high-flying Torquay.

Hunt and Rogan played a key role in the Cumbrians' fightback from two goals down in the 3-3 draw with Crawley at the weekend. Rogan grabbed two goals and he and Hunt will replace Lee McEvilly and Brendan McGill respectively.

Torquay are without defender Lee Mansell for the long trip to Holker Street so Lee Hodges will return to the starting line-up.

Hodges will go into the heart of the defence to partner Chris Todd with Chris Robertson switching to right-back for The Gulls, who could nail down a play-off place with a win.

Histon v Weymouth

Histon boss Steve Fallon is sweating on the fitness of keeper Danny Naisbitt after he pulled out of the draw with Kidderminster at the last minute.

Joe Welch is on standby to deputise once again but Josh Simpson’s ankle injury will not be risked.

Relegation-threatened Weymouth will throw Pierre Joseph-Dubois back into the starting line-up for the first time in three months in a bid to haul themselves away from danger.

Joseph-Dubois was an unused substitute for the 2-0 defeat against Ebbsfleet after three months on the sidelines with a metatarsal injury but, with boss Bobby Gould desperate for options, he will start at Bridge Road.

Stevenage v Kidderminster

Midfielder Andy Drury is expected to return to the Stevenage starting XI for the crucial clash with Kidderminster after a surprise appearance from the bench on Saturday.

Lawrie Wilson will make way for Drury with Jon Ashton’s shoulder injury again keeping him on the sidelines.

Kidderminster captain Mark Creighton will miss the trip to Broadhall Way after limping out of the draw with Histon.

Creighton’s place will be taken by Luke Jones while Brian Smikle could replace Darryl Knights on the wing.

York v Forest Green

York boss Martin Foyle will keep faith with the same team that moved The Minstermen out of the drop zone after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Eastbourne.

Striker Daniel McBreen ended his 21-hour league goal-drought at the weekend and he will keep his place in attack alongside Richard Brodie.

Rovers striker Adriano Rigoglioso will again partner in-form striker Andy Mangan at KitKat Crescent after a man-of-the-match display in the 4-0 thumping of Rushden.

The former Morecambe frontman was in inspired form on his return to the first-team and will lead Rovers, who are now safe from the drop, along with 29-goal Mangan.

Grays v Crawley

Ishmael Welsh and Fabian Wilnis are pushing for recalls after they were on the bench in the weekend defeat at Altrincham.

Striker Andy Pugh is still suspended so Jamie Slabber and Jamie Taylor will keep their places in attack.

Former Arsenal youngster Isaiah Rankin is in contention to start at The Rec after he scored as a substitute in the 3-3 draw at Barrow.

Defender Jake Wright is still struggling with injury so Santos Gaia will retain his place at centre back.

Ebbsfleet v Wrexham

Ebbsfleet boss Liam Daish is set to shuffle his pack with Fleet now safe from the drop and having had a hectic schedule over the last month.

But striker Kezie Ibe won’t get a rest after scoring in the 2-0 win over Weymouth following his return from a loan spell at AFC Wimbledon.

Dean Saunders is set to make changes to his Wrexham team after another dire display in their 1-0 defeat to Kettering.

The Red Dragons have failed to find the net in their last four matches and Saunders has already warned his squad they are playing for their futures.

Lewes v Kettering

Lewes hope to have David Wheeler, Luke Rooney, Anthony Barness and Joe Keehan back for the home clash with Kettering.

The key quartet all missed the defeat to Northwich where The Rooks had ten teenagers on duty in their squad of 15 players.

On-loan Luton forward Ryan Charles will get another chance to impress after opening his Poppies account with the goal that saw off Wrexham.

Veteran midfielder Darren Wrack is still missing but boss Mark Cooper could give some of his fringe players the chance to impress with nothing left to play for apart from pride.

Mansfield v Altrincham

The ankle injury that Louis Briscoe picked up in the draw at Woking will rule him out of the home clash with Altrincham.

Briscoe was replaced by Aaron O’Connor after 20 minutes and the former Grays forward could deputise again.

Chris Denham is in line for a start after coming off the bench to secure Altrincham’s survival in the 2-0 win over Grays.

Denham scored the crucial second after replacing top-scorer Colin Little, who could be handed a well-earned rest after bagging 17 goals this season.
