Santos Laguna president Alejandro Irarragorri has denied reports PSV have joined the race to sign Wigan target Christian Benitez.
Steve Bruce is a long-term admirer of the 22-year-old Ecuador striker and it is believed The Latics may make a fresh approach to bring the player to The JJB Stadium in the summer.
And, although reports have suggested Eredivisie side PSV are ready to swoop in, it appears the player’s future is still far from decided.
Asked if PSV had been in contact, Irarragorri said in Medio Tiempo: “There has been no approach.
“As I have always said, Benitez is a great player and I have complete faith in his ability to go far because he has great commitment to this team.
“There is interest from many teams, but that story is not accurate.”
Reports suggest Tottenham, Portsmouth, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid are among the clubs to have sent scouts to watch Benitez recently, and Irarragorri has confirmed there is widespread interest.
He said: “There have been approaches from Wigan and many other teams, but so far there has not been anything formal.”
