Blue Square Premier champions Burton are looking for a new manager after caretaker boss Roy McFarland turned down the opportunity to take the job on a full time basis.
The former Derby captain took over from Nigel Clough following his move to The Rams and guided the team into League Two despite a run of moderate results which whittled down their commanding lead in the division.
Burton chairman Ben Robinson met with McFarland on Thursday evening where the caretaker manager stated he did not what the full time commitment of running a League Two club on a permanent basis.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with Roy, someone I have known for 30 years and for whom I have the utmost respect,” Robinson said on the club’s website.
“It was always going to be difficult for anyone to come in and take over from Nigel Clough in those circumstances but Roy came in and helped get us over that line and achieve promotion.”
