Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane has urged his old club to copy Barcelona’s philosophy.
The Frenchman, who could return to the Santiago Bernabeu outfit as a director next season, in the case Florentino Perez was voted president in June, understands that Madrid are not going in the right direction.
The former playmaker has insisted that Los Merengues must give chances to more homegrown players and take inspiration from the example of their arch-rivals
“Real Madrid must stop signing foreign players and be focused on homegrown talents like they do in Barcelona,” Zidane told Canal+, during an interview conducted by fellow Bordeaux legend Christophe Dugarry.
“[Lionel] Messi, Xavi or [Andres] Iniesta are capable of achieving incredible things with the ball. You cannot block them, not even on the Playstation.
“Madrid have to recover their past identity. Down there they do not know what every youth team plays for, whereas they have a common philosophy at Barca.”
