Samuel Eto’o and Andres Iniesta hailed Barcelona’s “deserved” win over Manchester United.
Cameroon striker Eto'o put Barca ahead in the tenth minute and against the run of play after a bright start from the deposed European champions, but his goal served as the platform for Josep Guardiola’s side to push on and dominate their encounter in Rome.
The European Cup added to the league title and Copa del Rey trophies already secured this season by the Catalan outfit, in a stunning debut season for coach Guardiola.
Eto’o’s contribution was the turning point in the game, and his delight was born from the fact that he feels his team-mates fully deserved their triumph.
“Up there is a just God,” said the Cameroon international. “The goal arrived at the most important moment, because it put us in front.
“I am happy because the team deserves it.”
Iniesta was the driving force from midfield alongside cohort Xavi and he felt Barca were worthy winners.
"We're the best," he told Canal Plus. "There are no words to explain this, it was the perfect end to a spectacular season.
"They were the better side for six or seven minutes, but after that we controlled the game. We were perfect."
Captain Carles Puyol put in a superb shift as a makeshift right back and was thrilled to end the season a high.
"This is the last title we were going for and this is an historic season," he said referring to the treble.
"After the first ten minutes, when we scored the goal - we mastered it."
