Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has confirmed the appointment of Leonardo as first team head coach.
Carlo Ancelotti is the new Chelsea manager, and the Rossoneri have immediately reacted to the tactician’s departure with the promotion of sporting director Leonardo.
The Brazilian, who won the 1994 World Cup in the USA, previously revealed that becoming a coach was part of his plans and he has been rewarded for his commitment to the Italian club.
Galliani understands that he made the right choice in Paris Saint Germain legend Leonardo, and he has hinted that ‘Carletto’ Ancelotti could return to the San Siro at some point in the future.
He told the club’s official website: “We hope, in some years’ time, to see him again on the bench with us and maybe to win other Champions League titles with Carletto as a coach. A thing is certain: when he will return, he will do better than [Arrigo] Sacchi and [Fabio] Capello!
“We never contacted any other coach, as we thought that there were only two options: either continuing with Ancelotti or appointing Leonardo.
“Leonardo took the same professional way as Capello. I wish him the same luck, and success!”
