Corluka: Spurs considering Srna swoop

by Robin Hackett , 03 June 2009

Tottenham defender Vedran Corluka believes Harry Redknapp could be set to launch a bid for Croatia team-mate Darijo Srna.

According to press reports, Spurs could be set make major changes ahead of the new season with the likes of Roman Pavlyuchenko, Darren Bent, David Bentley, Didier Zokora, Tom Huddlestone, Gilberto, Gareth Bale among those linked with a move away.

And, with names such as Goran Pandev, Glen Johnson, Djibril Cisse and Martin Petrov said to be under consideration, Corluka feels it could be a busy summer.

“There is plenty written and spoken [about changes at the club],” he told Sportske Novosti.

“It is possible that five or six players will go, but I think that we need at least two or three new signings if we are to increase our ambitions.

“Against the big teams, we were at our best; against the sides lower down the table, where physical power is the key, we were weak.

“You have to have a stronger bench to compete in the league.”

Shakhtar Donetsk right back Srna, 27, is one of the players reported to be under consideration and Corluka has revealed a move is a definite possibility.

Srna has previously suggested he has no intention of leaving Shakhtar but, with Milan and Bayern Munich also reported to be interested, he may be tempted to leave the Uefa Cup winners.

“I know that Redknapp is keen on Srna and would not be surprised if Tottenham go for him,” he said.

“I would play in the middle of defence if that were the case.

“We’ll see what Darijo’s plans are, but it seems that there are plenty of offers, which is no surprise given his quality.”

Niko Kranjcar, meanwhile, has also been linked with a move after his successful spell under Redknapp at Portsmouth, but Corluka is not convinced he would leave Fratton Park.

He said: “There’s a lot of talk because everybody knows that Redknapp has always been a huge admirer of Niko’s football.

"Like Srna, though, he has always seemed pretty much committed to his club."

Kranjcar said this week that he had no plans to leave Portsmouth.
