Poom handed Arsenal coaching role

by Laurent Picard , 03 June 2009

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Mart Poom has revealed that he has been offered the chance to become a coach for The Gunners.

The Estonian, who joined Arsenal from Sunderland in January 2006, looks set to head back to the London club as a coach after hanging up his boots.

The 37-year-old has announced that he has also been offered the chance to coach the club’s successful women's team.

The Gunners’ current goalkeeping coach Gerry Peyton is recovering from surgery and Poom has been offered the chance to start a four-month long adventure.

Poom trained Estonia’s shot-stoppers in the recent past and is due to retire after the international friendly between his country and Portugal on June 10 in Tallinn.

"In addition, I have been offered the chance to coach the women's team,” Poom told Uefa’s official website. “I'm still in good physical shape, but Wenger has decided to prepare for the future.”
