West Ham have enquired about France international Rod Fanni, his agent revealed to setanta.com.
Rennes right back Fanni has blossomed this season in the French league, with the defender breaking into the international scene with Les Bleus.
West Ham have just lost Lucas Neill and are believed to be searching for a new right back.
And Fanni’s agent Dominique Six has affirmed that The Hammers are on his tail, along with Spanish and German clubs.
“We have been in talks with several clubs including West Ham, which is an interesting option to Rod,” Six told setanta.com. “Rod is crazy for English football and I know that he would be delighted to be playing his football in there.
“But West Ham are not the only club that have knocked at the door, as there is also a top Spanish club [believed to be Atletico Madrid] and a great German club [believed to be Bayern Munich] after him.
“To my mind Rod Fanni is the same kind of footballer as Jose Bosingwa.
“I had already been in touch with West Ham in the past when they asked me to seal a deal with Emmanuel Adebayor, who was unhappy with his contract with Monaco.
“I have no idea whether West Ham have made a concrete offer to Rennes or not, it’s business between clubs, but what I know is that the player is keen on the English market.”
The agent understands that Stade Rennais could price the full back out of the market in order to keep him for another season.
Fanni experienced a short trial with Nottingham Forest in the past, and Six has affirmed that the defender keeps a great memory of it.
He said: “Indeed he made the trip to Nottingham, trained and played a friendly game alongside Pape Sarr, who was also on trial there at this time.”
