Forlan may quit Atletico - chairman

by Laurent Picard , 04 June 2009

Atletico Madrid chairman Enrique Cerezo has hinted that Diego Forlan will move on if a club pay his buy-out clause.

European Golden Boot Forlan has been linked to a host of clubs, including in The Premier League, after bagging an incredible 32 league goals this term with the Rojiblancos.

His parent club are determined to keep the Uruguay international in order to bolster their chances of retaining their Champions League status next season, but Cerezo has declared that he will not be able to turn his back on a huge offer if a club opt to pay the striker’s buy-out clause.

Nevertheless, Cerezo does not believe that the former Manchester United attacker will join city rivals Real Madrid.

“We don’t know anything about Forlan, [Sergio] Aguero or Maxi [Rodriguez],” Cerezo told Marca. “I don’t think that Forlan will move to Real Madrid.

“The players play their football where they want to, but if someone decides to pay his clause, then we won’t be able to do anything.

“We don’t want him to leave. Nobody has been in touch with us, not from Spain or from outside of the country.”
