Rangers’ title defence will likely start without the services of Maurice Edu and Kevin Thomson, who are both recovering from injuries.
Edu underwent successful surgery on a knee ligament problem after injuring himself against Dundee United, and he missed last week’s Homecoming Scottish Cup triumph.
The US international will now spend three months rehabilitating and has been forced to withdraw from his country’s participation in their World Cup qualifiers with Costa Rica and Honduras, as well as the Confederations Cup later this month.
Thomson is also highly unlikely to be unavailable for the new season’s kick-off, after missing most of the last campaign.
The midfielder suffered a cruciate injury last November and despite his recovery going well will still have to wait until September to make his return.
