Sutton tips brother for Fir Park

by Gordon Pope , 12 June 2009

John Sutton has backed his brother Chris to succeed if he takes over from Mark McGhee at Motherwell.

McGhee has replaced Jimmy Calderwood at Aberdeen and with Sutton senior putting his name forward for the Fir Park role, John would fancy linking up the former Blackburn striker.

“I haven’t spoken to Chris about the job at all,” Sutton told The Scottish Daily Express.

“It is up to him whether he wants to go for the job or not but I know he certainly has ambitions in management.

“Chris certainly wanted the Inverness job when it went to Terry Butcher and so I am sure he’d love the chance, if offered, to take the Well post.

“There is no reason why Chris can’t a success. He is bright enough and played at the highest level as a player.

“I know that doesn’t always guarantee you will become a successful manager but I am sure with a bit of luck Chris could make a real name for himself on that front.”
