No bids for Chelsea target Aguero

by Tom Adams , 15 June 2009

Atletico Madrid are adamant they have received no offers for any of their star players despite Chelsea being strongly linked with a move for Sergio Aguero in recent weeks.

The Argentina international is believed to be a prime target for new Chelsea head coach Carlo Ancelotti as the Italian looks to reinvigorate a squad that finished in third place in The Premier League last season.

Both Aguero and his strike partner Diego Forlan, who finished the season as the European Golden Boot winner, are expected to attract widespread interest from Europe’s elite clubs after dovetailing so successfuly at the Vicente Calderon.

But Atleti president Enrique Cerezo insists no offers have been forthcoming and none are welcome as he looks to hold onto his two most valuable assets.

“No club or no official have visited us,” said Cerezo. “We have no offers for our players.

“We are calm and we are not a selling club. Our idea is to build a great team.

“The preliminary round of the Champions League is in August and we intend to progress.

“Teams that want one of our players know what they must do: pay the transfer release clause.”

Aguero joined Atleti from Independiente in the summer of 2006 and has scored 36 goals in 74 appearances in the last two seasons in the Primera Liga.
