Valencia want to cash in on Villa

by Laurent Picard , 16 June 2009

Valencia have rejected insufficient offers for striker David Villa, club director Fernando Gomez has claimed.

The Spain international is one of the most wanted strikers around, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea reportedly bidding for his services.

Valencia are expected to cash in on the player to help resolve their economic crisis, and Gomez apparently wants to make the most of this big-money transfer, with El Che rejecting already several offers that they feel are insufficient.

“Regarding the Villa situation, I want to clarify two things: first of all, Valencia have not reached any agreement with another club regarding his transfer and, secondly, the offers we received are not satisfactory,” Gomez told Spanish reporters, following Los Che’s governing board.

Spanish daily Marca still claims that Villa has agreed to join Real Madrid, while the Merengues' sporting director, Jorge Valdano, understands that Barca are in pole position to snap him up.
