Italy playmaker Andrea Pirlo has admitted that he could well start ‘a new chapter’ by linking up with Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea this summer.
Ancelotti’s arrival at Stamford Bridge has led to all manner of speculation regarding his former players at Milan, with two-time Champions League winner Pirlo high on the list of reputed targets due to his excellent form in recent seasons.
The Blues are expected to sell Deco to Inter and the 30-year-old Pirlo could provide an injection of craft and creativity to Ancelotti’s midfield as the new manager aims to deliver the club’s first ever Champions League trophy next season.
Speaking after Italy’s Confederations Cup victory over USA, in which he set up Giuseppe Rossi’s second goal with an outrageous piece of skill and a visionary pass, Pirlo hinted that he is ready to move to The Premier League.
“Perhaps it’s possible that I could join Ancelotti in London,” said Pirlo. “He is a great coach, perhaps I could play with him again.
“I’ve been at Milan a long time and maybe it’s time for a new chapter in my career.
“I will think about my future at the end of the season. I don’t know if I’ll continue with Milan.”
Pirlo joined Milan from Brescia in 2001 and was a key member of the Rossoneri's 2003 and 2007 Champions League winning sides.
