North Korea reached the World Cup finals for the first time in 44 years after drawing 0-0 with Saudi Arabia on Wednesday night.
The national side are synonymous with one of the greatest shocks in the history of the competition when, in 1966, they defeated Italy 1-0 thanks to a goal from Pak Do Ik.
Now the Asian nation have returned to football’s biggest stage after holding Saudi Arabia to a stalemate in Riyadh, meaning they finish in the second qualifying spot in Group 2.
Neighbours South Korea had already qualified for the finals from the same group while Australia and Japan had also sealed their progress from Group 1.
Saudi Arabia have finished third in the group and will play against Bahrain to determine which Asian side faces New Zealand in a play-off for a place at the finals in South Africa.
Holland are the only other country to have qualified for the finals after collecting seven wins from seven in their European group, while South Africa qualify automatically as hosts.
