Coyle signs new deal at Burnley

by Adam Marshall , 18 June 2009

Owen Coyle has signed a new contract with Premier League new boys Burnley.

The Scot had been targeted for the Celtic post but pledged his future to The Clarets after masterminding their remarkable progress into the top flight.

After the Championship play-off final win over Sheffield United, Coyle was understandably hot property but his goal has always been to pit his wits against the best managers in the country.

The new contract will run until 2013, meaning it is a two-year extension, and enables the Lancashire club to focus on their challenges ahead as they look to avoid relegation and continue building for the future.

As well as their successful league campaign, Burnley also collected a number of Premier League scalps during the cup competitions last term.

"Owen is a young manager with a great future," operational director Brendon Flood told the club's official website.

"The community has recognised Owen's qualities and we are sure everyone will welcome this news so that we can now concentrate on our plans for a very successful season."
