Pirlo closes the book on 'Chelsea chapter'

by Tom Kell , 18 June 2009

Andrea Pirlo has distanced himself from quotes suggesting that he could reunite with Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea.

Confirmation of Ancelotti’s appointment at Stamford Bridge has predictably been greeted with ongoing reports of a whole host of his former players making the same trip from Milan to West London.

Gennaro Gattuso and Alexandre Pato have both been the subject of such conjecture while Pirlo looked to have perpetuated rumours surrounding his own future by admitting a move to The Blues could open a ‘new chapter’ in his career.

The Rossoneri have continue to tow a not-for-sale party line which now seems to have been substantiated by Pirlo’s denial of a statement previously attributed to himself.

"I have never spoken with the Irish Independent (one of the newspapers to run the quotes on Wednesday) and I have never told anyone anything like the quotes which have been attributed to me," Pirlo told Milan's official website.
