Toffees target Russia star

by Tom Adams , 19 June 2009

Everton could target CSKA Moscow defender Sergei Ignashevich should they lose Joleon Lescott, according to reports in Russia.

The Toffees defender is believed to be the subject of interest from Manchester City and has been linked with a possible £15 million to Eastlands this summer.

If David Moyes was to lose his key defender, who has proved a superb acquisition since joining from Wolves in 2006, then the Everton boss is believed to have a replacement in mind.

Respected Russian newspaper Sport Express claims the 29-year-old Ignashevich is a target for the Merseysiders who have qualified for the Europa League again next season.

CSKA president Evgeny Giner admitted: "We have a very interesting offer from abroad."

Ignashevich joined CSKA from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2004 and has won two Russian league titles as well as the 2005 Uefa Cup during his time with the club.

The defender was also a member of the Russia team that performed so admirably at Euro 2008, making four appearances for Guus Hiddink’s side as they eventually lost in the semi-finals to Spain.

CSKA is a club that Moyes knows well as the Scot attempted to sign Jo from the Russian side before his move to Manchester City last summer and has also targeted Brazilian striker Vagner Love in the past.
