I'm going nowhere says Broadfoot

by Gordon Pope , 19 June 2009

Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot believes he will remain at Ibrox next season, despite speculation to the contrary.

The Scotland international’s contract expires in a year’s time, and despite not starting talks on a new deal he is not worried his will be heading for the exit door.

“I get the feeling that I'm wanted here,” Broadfoot said. “I've been told that.

“I don't see me moving in the near future.”

Meanwhile the 24-year-old is not expecting to return to full fitness until November due to a broken foot, and Broadfoot admitted that date cannot come soon enough.

He explained: “After rehab, hopefully I can get fit and strong enough to push for a starting place again. That's what I'm looking forward to.

“It just depends on how quickly and well my rehab goes.

“Every player wants to play in the Champions League and it's great for a club like Rangers to be back in it.

“From a player's point of view, it's the biggest stage you can play at in club football.

“Just now, it's just about resting really. I'm about a month into it - it's three months without any weight bearing.

“After that, my rehab will start but for the moment I'm sitting about, keeping it elevated and keeping myself occupied.

“I'm hoping I can eventually get fit and strong enough to push for a starting place again. That's what I'm looking forward to.

“This is the longest I've been out injured and it's probably the first time I've been out for more than a month.

“Generally speaking, I'm quite bored and the Xbox is keeping me going as much as anything.”
