Grant out to win every match

by Gordon Pope , 19 June 2009

Peter Grant believes Celtic must go out to take maximum points in every game if they are to win the title.

The former Hoops star returned to Glasgow as part of Tony Mowbray’s coaching team that are looking to bring the title back to Parkhead, and Grant knows it will be difficult.

“Celtic have got to win every game, there’s no point saying ‘we’ve got to do this and that’, we’ve got to win every game,” he said on Setanta Sports News .

“As I said, that’s the challenge and when you win one you’ve got to win the next one. People used to say to me after we won the league and they saw me out running the next day, ‘why are you out running when you’re champions’ but I’d say we’re only champions for three weeks before the season starts again.

“That’s the way it is here and we’ve got to win the next game and we want to win the next game, and that’s the challenge.

“We don’t want to look too far ahead, of course we want to qualify in Europe and play against the very best and win the league and cups, but to do that you’ve got to win every game you play in and that’s what we’re trying to achieve.”

Grant continued: “Yes it was a blip last year and we’ve got to be first, there’s no such thing as second place here.

“We understand that and we knew that when we were here. I went nine years without winning the league when I was player which was a real difficult time.

“But the club bounced back from that and this time the players have been successful but have only had a blip this year and we’ll try and win it back again.”
