Chisholm released by Hibs

by Gordon Pope , 20 June 2009

Ross Chisholm has been left shocked after being released by Hibernian, according to the player’s agent.

Scott Fisher says his client had been verbally offered a new deal a few months ago, but he is now searching for a new club after returning from holiday.

“It's been a difficult few days for Ross. He had been offered a new contract a while back but I went for a meeting with Rod Petrie and was told that some players are not now being retained,” Fisher said in The Scotsman.

“We had been trying to sort it out for the six months but Hibs were not very forthcoming. Ross thought that he was being kept on but it has turned out not to be the case.

“He's just back from holiday and it has only just happened so we are still at the very early stages but hopefully he will get something sorted out elsewhere.

“Ross is a good young player but I don't think that he was given as many opportunities as he maybe should have under Mixu Paatelainen. He played more under John Collins and, when he was given a run in the team, did very well.

“Obviously, in the current financial climate there are a lot of players being released as clubs cannot afford to keep them on.

"When you're released at this stage it can be something of a 'summer lottery' but he has shown that he can play at first-team level in The SPL and we are confident there will be offers for Ross.”
