Hull line up shock Owen swoop

by Tom Adams , 21 June 2009

Hull City have confirmed they are considering an audacious bid for Michael Owen, but only if they can sign the Newcastle United striker ‘on the right terms’.

Owen will be leaving St James’ Park when his contract expires imminently and his camp have already sounded out a number of Premier League clubs by dispatching a dossier to underline the 29-year-old’s credentials.

As the fourth highest scorer in the history of the English national side, Owen would be expected to attract widespread interest but his persistent injury problems in recent seasons mean many clubs may be cautious.

As such, Hull are reported to be preparing a one-year deal, with large parts of his salary dependent on appearances made and goals scored.

And chairman Paul Duffen is clearly excited that a club preparing for only its second season in the English top flight could be bidding for one of The Premier League’s most prolific strikers.

"We're interested in Michael Owen on the right terms," Duffen told the News of the World.

"He's a fantastic footballer. He's had a few injury problems, but we would have to be interested in him.

"If the right deal can be done then we would definitely be keen to sign him. We are an ambitious football club and we want to show that.

"It would be an enormous move for us, but the deal can be done if it is on the right terms."
